Extreme Makeover
Makes a Return
September 5, 2009 Owensboro, Ky -
Skaggs RV Country was on
location to start the Labor Day weekend by supporting the "Extreme
Makeover - Home Edition" as they make a dream come true for yet another
Kentucky family in need. The Mattingly's in Lewisport, Ky was the family
selected to receive a new home from the ABC TV show's group led by Ty
Pennington. Skaggs RV Country furnished 6 RV's to be used by the staff as
crews work around the clock to tear down the old home and build a new home
for the family in time for the "reveal" by Saturday.
The last time Ty and his group
did a Kentucky project was in November 2007 in Louisville, Ky for the
Patrick Hughes family.“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has been on
the air since 2003. The show is about a team of designers, led by
Pennington, traveling throughout the country and helping people in need
make over their homes by demolishing the old home and starting from scratch. The catch is
designers have only a week to finish.

Despite
high gas prices, the allure of RV travel has not lost its appeal in
America. RV and campground trade associations are saying 2008 appears to
be just as busy as previous years, with an estimated 1.1 million-plus
recreation vehicles rolling into National Park Service campgrounds.
So clearly, we love our houses on wheels. But settling for a modest
rolling home, well, that borders on communism. What we're about is the
biggest and best. We need to know what's out there in order to dream of
luxury and excess.
To stoke these deeply American desires, we compiled a gallery of some of
the most opulent RVs we could find -- the posh and pimped of portable
abodes.

Hardin Co. native helps ‘extreme’ program better student’s life
By BRIAN T. KEHL
ELIZABETHTOWN — NeVelle Skaggs has established himself as a shaker and
mover. Literally.
Skaggs, in just the last week, supplied eight vehicles as well as a van
and stretch limo for the ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,”
filming in Louisville at the home of Patrick Henry Hughes. Hughes is a
sophomore on the University of Louisville Marching Band, who is blind and
cannot extend his arms or legs. His father wheels him in a chair to his
position when the band marches.
At the prompting of a spokesman for the show, Skaggs estimates the worth
of his donation at $400,000, for which he will receive some advertisement
and credibility in the industry. He not only supplied living quarters for
cast members and crew, but also supplied the stretch limo and driver,
Shane Crutcher, the fire chief from Rineyville. Crutcher picked up Hughes
from the University of Louisville campus after band practice Wednesday and
took him and his family to the airport, from where they were sent on a
week-long vacation to London, accompanied by a guide.
“We’re excited to be here,” Skaggs said, standing beside U of L band’s
practice field in the cold wind and waiting for the limo to take the
family to the airport. “It’s hectic but good. It’s not a normal-type thing
when dealing with something like this. Plans are constantly changing.”
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” sifts through thousands of applications
each season, and chooses what they consider a deserving family, then goes
to their home and either rebuild or renovate it within a week. They are a
traveling town, and bring 75 members of the cast and crew, including their
own security, and accept help from about 300 local volunteers at each
stop.
Skaggs’ trailers, parked in a square behind the Hughes’ home, will be both
planning space and living quarters for the next week for many of the
show’s cast and crew. Aside from Skaggs, the cable company also is
present, as well as inspectors on call, security, engineers, caterers,
firemen and EMS, police and curious neighbors and spectators. In the midst
of it all, Skaggs and his crew, helped to set up and organize, rushing
from one spot to the next, speaking with representatives and moving trucks
and trailers about.
The Hughes house will be demolished today before work can begin and about
40 workers on two shifts a day will rebuild it by the time the family
returns Wednesday, making it more accessible for Patrick’s wheelchair,
Skaggs enjoyed being a part of the operation, especially because this show
helps people, he said.
And, as he was waiting, he got a call from Nashville. His marketing manager and limo driver, Dave Dunaway, was letting him know that he was
driving the band Sugarland, who won best vocal duo at the Country Music
Awards Wednesday night. He had not heard yet who else his driver’s were
escorting around Nashville, but in any case, Skaggs was smiling.

Hardin County native to supply trailers, limos for
award-winning show
By BRIAN T. KEHL
ELIZABETHTOWN — Life is good for NeVelle Skaggs, a Hardin County native
and owner of Skaggs RV Country and other businesses. But things might be
getting even better.
His company was referred to
supply seven fifth-wheel trailers, a motor home, van and possibly a limo
for the ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Skaggs said he was contacted about two weeks ago and at noon today the
show’s host, Ty Pennington will use a bullhorn to shout his signature
“Good Morning” to one lucky family.
“At first we weren’t real sure if they were serious or not,” Skaggs said.
“We get a lot of solicitation calls during the week. But I got the call
from the friend who referred us and she told me those folks would be
calling and we realized it was a real call. (We’re excited), as a matter of
fact even the staff is excited about participating.”
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has been on the air since 2003. The show
is about a team of designers, led by Pennington, traveling throughout the
country and helping people in need make over their homes either by
renovations or demolishing and starting from scratch. The catch is
designers have only a week to finish.
According to the show’s Web site, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has won
two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program, plus the People’s Choice
Award for Favorite Reality Show/Makeover and the Family Television Award
for Best Alternative/Reality Program. While Pennington and his crew are
redoing the home, the family is sent on a week-long vacation. The goal of
the program is to redo homes in all 50 states.
Skaggs’ vehicles will be used as management’s on-site day-offices during
filming. But even Skaggs does not know where they will be yet.
“They were very secretive,” he said. All he knows is that it will be
somewhere in the Louisville-Metro area.
Skaggs and his crew are no strangers to celebrities. He has rented
trailers to production companies throughout the years and this Wednesday
will mark the 10th year he has supplied limos for the Country Music Awards
in Nashville.
“We have over the years sold a trailer now and then to different
production companies for various things,” he said. This is the first time,
though, he has done anything on this scale.
This contract will add more credibility to his business, as well as
advertisement. But Skaggs, who watches the show, is doing it for another
reason.
“I’ve always been impressed with what they do for the families, to help
someone in need.”

employees assisted in clean up and repairs after an unseasonable tornado
came tearing through Rineyville and areas north of Elizabethtown. On
January 2, 2006 a tornado passed 350 yards north of the Skaggs service
center on North Wilson Rd and heavily damaged and destroyed several homes
and businesses. The service center didn't have any damage so the employees
assisted in the community by helping to remove debris and installing tarps

designed to blend the appearance of a Lexington Horse Farm and a Cracker

showroom will give the relaxing atmosphere found at a Cracker Barrel and
the Rustic Decor and Lighted Spires on the roof will add to the Horse Farm
appearance as seen on many barns in the Lexington-Bluegrass region. Owner NeVelle Skaggs
said it was fitting since the first thing you will see when you come off
the ramp of Blue Grass Parkway from Lexington is our dealership.
